What to keep in mind before buying a cheap mobile
Some of these cheap phones generally offer a good quality-price approach, with very competent features in all their areas.
Of others, however, we can highlight a particular feature such as the camera or the screen, (sometimes even offering better qualities than the more expensive cell phones).
Chinese phones are a great option in the affordable mobile market since they usually make a very good balance between quality and price.
Examples of this are the Xiaomi or OnePlus brand. Both offer amazing quality compared to other well-known brands.
Sometimes they do not have to have perfect characteristics in all areas. That is to say, although these phones are not as fast as the most expensive mobiles (in general), their speed may be more than enough for most users.
We recommend you choose a phone that balances the price, performance; functions, and design in a way that you, and only you, get to conquer.
The 10 best cheap phones of 2018
The Moto G7 is not only the best Moto G phone yet, but it is also the best mid-range phone that you can buy today.
Obviously, if you spend more than double you can get a better phone, but this is a mid-range phone article, so if you’re here it’s probably because you prioritize the price to the processor, screen and high-end cameras.
If that is your case, the Moto G7 is the best option in which you can currently invest. It has Android 9 Pie, a 1080p screen, good battery life and decent performance on a premium phone. It does not disappoint.
Price: 6 / 128GB $ 549 | 8 / 128GB $ 579 | 8 / 256GB $ 629
This is one of the best phones you can buy right now, even if you do not have a headphone jack. It has a fingerprint sensor on the screen, an improved speaker and a much more powerful battery.
The big screen is excellent, the dual cameras do incredible photos, and the phone’s performance is the best that can be found on an Android, along with Pixel 3.
You will have to like the black color since the OnePlus 6T is not available in other colors. With this device we have been able to see how OnePlus continues to lower its prices, making its smartphone stand out in the industry.
Honor View 20
To be confirmed
The Honor View 20 is impressive. We like its design from any angle, its pinhole camera in the front and the holographic effect in the form of ‘v’ in the back of the glass.
With a Kirin 980 and 6 / 8GB RAM, the specifications are very powerful to match and compete comfortably with much more expensive flagship phones (including Huawei’s own Mate 20 Pro).
And perhaps for the first time, Honor deserves to be in the same conversation as the big names when it comes to the quality of the camera.
Honor’s flagships have always offered good specifications and elegant design while they have lowered the prices of their rivals, but usually, there have always been some “sacrifice” or lack that the phone had to reduce costs.
However, perhaps for the first time, this has not been the case. Obviously, high-end features such as wireless charging or water resistance are still lacking, but the main specifications are still of a very powerful quality.
Xiaomi Pocophone F1
There is no doubt that the Pocophone F1 is one of the best Chinese phones we have tested.
Xiaomi has done an extraordinary job creating a high-performance phone at an incredibly cheap price. It may not be the thinnest and lightest phone of all, but its design remains attractive and desirable.
If you like Mi8 but your budget cannot be stretched; this is the phone you are looking for.
Although the life of the Honor 10 battery is not perfect, it is a minimum failure compared to the good overall performance of the phone. Its value for money is, without a doubt, fantastic.
Its screen, cameras and general quality put it at the level of other smartphones that double their price. It offers the best software that EMUI has ever offered. We have also been impressed by its 128GB of standard storage, in addition to its dual SIM.
Add to all this headphone jack and the Honor 10 could be considered the best cheap phone ever seen. In our opinion, it is one of the best shopping you can do in this 2018.
Despite its price, the Honor 8X looks and works like a high-end smartphone in almost every respect. It has a magnificent shiny glass cover and an impressive screen without 6.5-inch Full HD + bezels, with a small notch in the case and a 20Mp camera.
It offers advanced features that include facial recognition (works well almost always) and, although the performance is not perfect, especially when running more demanding applications, the Honor 8X is a phone more than enough to navigate and give a not too exhaustive use.
Asus ZenFone 5
If imitation is the most sincere form of adulation, then the Asus design team is clearly a big fan of the Apple Company.
You may fan more even than most Android phones with a notch, since the ZenFone 5 looks a lot like the iPhone X, from its camera placement and glass finish to the rounded metal edges.
For a phone that costs about a third of what the new Apple iPhone costs, it’s not bad. The specifications are decidedly mid-range, but the performance is acceptable and fast enough for the average user.
Although the camera is not the best in its class, it is capable of taking good pictures thanks to the help of some software settings enabled for the AI.
The biggest challenge for the ZenFone 5 is the similar look (and the better specs) of the Honor 10, which is just a little more expensive.
The good thing about ZenFone 5 is its 6.2-inch screen, so if the full screen is a priority for you, then this can be a good buying decision.
If you look at its price, it is very easy to recommend the Honor Play. The screen can not rival those of phones for gamers like the Razer Phone or the Asus ROG, but the Play offers a first-class performance at a much lower price than any of those models, which could make it the ideal phone for gamers with a limited budget.
The specifications are almost identical to the more expensive Honor 10 and even the much more expensive Huawei P20, although it is worth noting that it has a metal chassis instead of a glass cover, and the camera can not compete with those phones.
Even so, even if you’re not gamer, this is one of the phones with the best value for money on the market, which offers a flagship performance for very little money (compared to other models).
If the quality of the photos and the camera is one of your priorities, this is not a recommended phone for you.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite
The Mi 8 Lite is a mid-range phone with excellent value for money with magnificent design and decent hardware, especially in the camera department.
There is not much that separates it from the Mi A2, but if we have to choose, we are left with this model because we have a better design and extra tools of software thanks to MIUI.
Moto G7 Plus
The Moto G7 Plus is a fantastic mid-range phone. With your purchase, you get the type of design, specifications, and features you would expect from a much more expensive phone.
However, we prefer the regular G7 because it costs less, and has practically the same specifications.
The G7 Plus does not have a bigger screen or better battery like most other brands’ Plus models. In this case, what you get extra are more specialized tools such as OIS, faster loading, stereo speakers and Bluetooth 5.0.
Although a faster processor is tempting, phones like Honor Play make the G7 Plus can not compete so well when it comes to performance.
