We know Ikea from the affordable furniture and home accessories. But the Swedish retail chain is also bringing out more and more electronics products. In this review, we look at two Bluetooth speakers in the Ikea Eneby series.

Ikea products are known for their minimalist design and relatively low prices. These characteristics also apply to the Eneby, a speaker from the eponymous series that is available in two sizes. The small and larger models are available in white and anthracite and have square plastic housing. The front, with the speakers behind it, is made of polyester. On the back are the bass opening, the current output, and a 3.5 mm audio port. With separately available accessories you can put the speakers on a stand or hang them on the wall.
- Plenty of power
- Good amount of bass
- EQ adjustment
- Good value
- 3.5mm input
- Battery pack sold separately (Eneby 20)
- No controls to pause or skip tracks
Both speakers only work with the plugin the socket, though you can buy a battery for the smaller model (20 euro) so you can use it for a few hours wirelessly. With 1,5kg he is in our opinion only too heavy to take to the beach or park. The larger version is 3.6 kg meant to be placed somewhere in the house (not in the bathroom). Conveniently, both speakers at the back have a handle to easily move them.
There is a rotary knob in front of the Eneby speakers. If you press it briefly, it goes into pairing mode and you can connect it to your device via Bluetooth. You also use the knob to adjust the volume and if desired – to adjust the treble and bass. This works properly.
Disappointing sound quality
The most important part of a speaker is, of course, its sound quality, but the Eneby models do not know how to convince. The smaller version can be quite loud, but the sound has little detail and sounds much the same. The bass is very present as standard, so it is advisable to reduce it via the rotary knob. Because all the sound comes from the front, it is best to listen straight in front of the speaker. If it is tilted, your music sounds less beautiful.
The larger speaker also suffers from this, although the sound quality is better. For example, the bass is more natural and tones sound livelier. That does not mean that the great Eneby produces the best sound: we think that competitive speakers from JBL and UE sound better.
The two Eneby speakers do not know how to convince them. The design is beautiful, but the models are on the heavy side. It is also a pity that the speakers do not have a (built-in) battery. The small version also sounds poor and the sound quality of the large model is not impressive either. For these prices, there are better speakers for sale.
